Aug 28/29: Sensory Detail
- Analyze this passage of Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach. How does Dahl appeal to the five senses: sight, smell, touch, taste, and hear? Give an example of each--use textual evidence.
- In a paragraph of at least six sentences, describe this cake using sensory details. What do you see, smell, feel, taste, and hear?
Sept 2/3: Expression and Reflection
- Print off and read "The God of Cake" by Alli Brosh. Highlight where Brosh expresses the story (simply tells the story) and highlight where she reflects on the story (moves beyond the story and give it meaning). Here is a PowerPoint to help you understand the difference between expression and reflection.
- Write and illustrate your own 6 word memoir. Here is an example. While I'm not assessing your artwork, I expect you to give me good work.
Sept 4/5: AoW 1 and Memoir Graphic Organizer
- Complete AoW 1. Be sure to thoroughly annotate the article and analyze it using SOAPSTone.
- Read the prompt for the memoir essay.
- Plan you memoir using this graphic organizer.
Sept 8/9: Drafting Day 1
- Read and understand the scoring guide for the memoir essay. A score of 6 will receive 100/100.
- Draft at least one page of your memoir essay today.
Sept 10/11: Drafting Day 2
- Continue working on your memoir. Revise and edit your essay to pure perfection. Your essay is due at the beginning of class next time.
Sept 12/15 : Memoir Due
- Miss McDade and I will hold writing conferences with each student to score his or her essay.
- Complete AoW 2.
